About the Exhibition

“A Journey” brings together the largest collection of Jaafar Islah’s works ever assembled,
tracing the evolution of his artistic journey from his early creations in 1965 to his most recent
pieces. The exhibition features unique archival materials, early works from 1965 and 1966,
and several never-before-exhibited masterpieces. The displayed artworks, sourced from
private collections, institutions, and the artist’s personal archives, highlight Islah’s innovative
approaches and diverse artistic visions.

Jaafar Islah: An Artistic Legacy

Jaafar Islah is one of Kuwait’s most celebrated artists, known for his contributions to
contemporary art both locally and internationally. His artworks, which encompass paintings,
sculpture, printmaking and textile art, have been displayed in prestigious exhibitions and are
part of major museum collections worldwide. Cities such as Jakarta, Bali, Seville, Florence,
Rome, Rajasthan, Cairo and more, have hosted his works, reflecting his global influence.
One of his monumental public sculptures, the “Wall of Peace,” created in 1985, is a 3-ton
marble piece located along the seaside in Kuwait City, near the iconic Kuwait Towers. This
sculpture symbolizes harmony and peace and stands as a testament to Islah’s enduring vision
and artistry. Additionally, Islah designed a series of postage stamps in 1991 to commemorate
Kuwait’s National Independence Day, further showcasing his versatility and dedication to his
craft.
Islah’s art blends profound knowledge of human heritage, Eastern and Islamic civilizations,
Arab traditions, and contemporary global perspectives. His ability to convey complex
narratives through various mediums has cemented his place as a visionary artist.
